Anytime from 01 February to 30 September either learn or hone your skills in the craft of fly fishing for salmon! Ballyvolane House is now offering a fantastic opportunity to learn to fly fish on the renowned river Blackwater with one its most experienced and talented fishing guides.
The course is based at Ballyvolane House and Blackwater Salmon Fishery. It is designed for up to 4 participants under the tuition of Norman Gillett, who is both a qualified instructor holding the Salmon & Trout Association National Instructors Certificate (STANIC), and a member of the Game Angling Instructors' Association (GAIA). All aspects of modern fly-fishing and spinning techniques are covered but emphasis is placed on as much practical fishing as possible. Courses are held throughout the season, subject to beat availability. All tackle is provided.The courses are spread over 2 days and 3 nights starting with dinner at Ballyvolane on the first night and finishing up after breakfast 2 days later. Dawn & Evening Chorus Walks at Longueville House May 2010
Take sound ornithology expertise set it in an elegant country house estate and join in our second series of dawn chorus events with professional bird watching guide Michael Cobley on the magnificent grounds of Longueville House. Michael (chair of the West Cork branch of Bird Watch Ireland) has years of experience guiding groups of various experience levels including newcomers.
Location: Based at Longueville House. Meet at hotel 4.00am dawn walks & at 7.00pm evening walk.
Course Content: Tuition in identifying birds by their call alone. Recognising bird song & calls, and also information on their habits and habitats.
When: Saturday 08th, Sunday 16th(National Dawn Chorus Day), Saturday 22nd & Saturday 29th, Saturday 15th (Eve of Dawn Chorus Walk).
Price: €55 per adult & €25 per child (under 13yrs) to include: Guided Dawn/ Evening Chorus, Buffet Breakfast/ Supper with evening walk plus discussion.
Course suitable for complete beginners & improvers in ornithology. "Quiet" children welcome. Sadly no dogs on this occasion.
Equipment: Warm outdoor clothing/ hiking books/ wellies/ waterproof hats, over coats, umbrellas & sunglasses depending on weather. Binoculars if you readily have them but not essential.
