Fishery Report » Ballin Temple Cottages and Fishery
[ May 2008 ]
Many, if not all, of the Slaney beats above Clohamon weir are closed this year. Riparian owners and clubs have voluntarily closed fishing as a conservation measure. There is great concern that stocks and breeding grounds need time to recover.
The river has been quite low so far this year owing to limited rainfall. The quality of the water is reasonably clear, but this does not mean it's clean. Signs of eutrophication and pollution are growing, promoted by agricultural run-off and a greatly increased burden from urban water take-out and waste. There are fish in the river but the habitat remains fragile.
We are encouraging nature lovers to enjoy the river and woods and we appreciate the patience of our members who have voluntarily put down their rods this year.
