Fishery Report » Ballyvolane House & Blackwater Salmon Fishery
[ March 2009 ]
Justin Green reports that the conditions throughout the month were excellent on the Blackwater and ideal for fly-fishing using sink-tip lines with tube flies and number 8 flies. Some showers in the upper catchment resulted in the river rising during the first week of March and a slight rise in water levels later in the month. The water clarity was good with a slight peaty stain following the rains.
Brian Davis (USA), caught and released a 5lbs. fish on a Kepala at Kilbarry (below Fermoy) on March 9. The river was a little too high for fly fishing that day.
Despite many fish being spotted in the river by many anglers at Ballyvolane no further catches were reported.
The prospects look great for the next week to ten days. The river is in mint condition and fish are being seen running every day by our anglers.
Ballyvolane House Fishing School is now taking bookings for the three day fishing course at the house with qualified instructor Norman Gillet. Courses are scheduled in May, June, July and August.
