Fishery Report » Ballyvolane House & Blackwater Salmon Fishery
[ June 2010 ]

With the driest June in years the river was down to it’s bones. The water temperature was also high. Significant numbers of grilse and summer salmon were coming into the system on the high tide in the lower catchment and this is where we placed our anglers and where they enjoyed some success. The highlight of the month was regular guests Robin & Penny Privett and Michael Lambert all took grilse up to 5lb and summer salmon up to 10lb all on the fly at Gairha just below Ballyduff during their week here. Cascade Shrimp and Ally’s Shrimp have been the most effective flies in June. When the rain comes (it always does), the fishing will be even better.
Ballyvolane House is running the popular one-day ‘Quickie’ Fishing Courses with qualified instructor Norman Gillet. One is aimed at ‘Beginners’ and the other is designed for ‘Improvers’. For more information, please visit www.ballyvolanehouse.ie.
