Fishery Report » Mount Falcon Country House Hotel
[ August 2011 ]

August was our best month of the season with a total of 261 salmon and grilse recorded.
Low water during the first week made conditions difficult, despite this the Whitwell party still accounted for 17 fish. Rain on the Sunday brought much needed fresh water into the system and with it a run of grilse. Despite losing a day due high and dirty water we had our best week of the season with 103 fish taken, and our best day when 29 fish were caught. Those enjoying success included the Diccon Family, with three generations all taking salmon (16 fish in 5 days including a number on the fly).
The third week in August also saw a good return with 50 fish caught by our guests. The Geesank party from Holland had 14 in 3 days. This included ‘1st’ fish for two of the group. Mr Steve Rivers (England) also caught his first salmon at Mount Falcon and followed it up with 6 more in his 3 day stay.
Week commencing 22nd saw 66 fish caught. Mr Vasco Pelosini (Italy) had 8 salmon in 3 days fishing. The high clean water was well suited to fly and more than a dozen fish were taken by this method (the orange and gold shrimp, and the Faughan shrimp fished on fast leaders were the most successful flies).
In the last 3 days of the month 25 fish were caught. The Uriate party from Spain took 10 in 2 days on a variety of methods. The last fish of the month was taken by a delighted 11 year old Annabel Hayward, on light line worm from Cunningham’s Pool.
With rain promised this week end we are looking forward to the arrival of more fresh grilse and hopefully some ‘harvest’ salmon.
