Longueville House is a magnificent Georgian Manor House Hotel overlooking Cork's Blackwater Valley where guests can enjoy superior accommodation as well as superb fishing, golfing and horse riding. The Longueville House Fishery is over a two mile stretch on one of Ireland's finest Salmon Rivers, the Munster Blackwater, and is comprised of seven salmon fly fishing beats.
Longueville House is a fine Georgian mansion overlooking Cork's Blackwater Valley. The house was built in 1720 and stands at the centre of a 500-acre, wooded estate. The renowned kitchen is supervised by William O’Callaghan, who obtains his produce from the estate’s working farm, its large walled garden and its game shoot – with salmon from the river.
There are several excellent golf courses within easy reach of Longueville, including Mallow, Killarney, Fota Island, the Old Head of Kinsale and Ballybunion Links. It is also an ideal base for touring the scenic south of Ireland and it is in the heart of horse country, with riding just a mile away. Hunting with the famous Duhallows can be arranged and Cork Racetrack (2 miles) hosts meetings throughout the year.
The house is 4 miles west of Mallow on the N72, 26 miles from Cork Airport and 3 hours' drive from Dublin. It is open from mid- March - early January annually.
The Fishing
The Longueville House Fishery is a beautiful, two-mile stretch of the renowned Munster Blackwater, one of Ireland's finest salmon rivers. The fishery meanders through the estate, parallel with the road. It is dominated by Dromineen Castle, perched high on a cliff above the river.
There are seven beats. Fly fishing for salmon is the main attraction, though spinning and bait fishing are allowed. Wet fly fishing for wild brown trout can be productive in February and April, while the dry fly can be effective in the late evenings during May, June & July.
Ghillies, who also provide tuition, need to be booked in advance. Tackle and licences are available. And any fish caught may be cooked or smoked by the kitchen.
