Healys Hotel set in a quiet corner of Pontoon in the wild, warm and windy west of Ireland - Co. Mayo to be exact. Healys Hotel is a 14 bed boutique-style hotel with a warm welcoming atmosphere, the building has lost none of its country house charm during renovations. Guests immediately feel at home, as if they are visiting friends or family. Food is an important factor that the proprietor, John Dever, is passionate about, hence our awards in the busy Lough Cullen Dining room and the informal Coachmans Restaurant. Fine wine from France, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Lebannon are all in our cellar to compliment the food - ‘the west coast dining experience’. We also have a hotel bar where you can enjoy friendly banter with the local and guest fisherfolk.
Healys’ setting on the shores of Lough Cullen is truly magical, watch the sun rise over the lake, or the moon reflecting in the quiet waters, swans gliding by, or the heron, like a statue waiting for its next meal. Listen to the birds in the ancient woodland behind the hotel, it really is paradise.
The Fishing
Healys and fishing go hand-in-hand and have done for nearly two hundred years, either on Lough’s Conn or Cullen for salmon and trout or the mighty River Moy, just a short drive away with its runs and pools for the best wild salmon with over 8,00 caught last year. We can arrange all your fishing requirements locally on an array of lakes and rivers.
Here in Co. Mayo we have excellent sporting facilities for outdoor pursuits ranging from fishing, golf, walking, archery, cycling, mountain climbing, horseriding, trekking, surfing, deep sea fishing, wreck fishing and diving. There are so many other areas of interest, for instance the Ceide Fields - an amazing archeological site, heritage centres, walking trails and The Mayo Sculpture Trail. Flora and fauna, ancient history, falconry, genealogy - in Mayo you can be as busy or laid-back as the mood takes you but one thing is for sure - you will never be bored.
Healys hosts its own Golf Classic, raising funds for charities. John Dever also hosts the Healy Fly Fishing competition in May and The Kingdom of Conn Cup - end of season - October.
