Grasshopper Cottage Grasshopper Cottage is a charming Guest House on Lough Corrib just 3 miles from Cornamona in Co Galway - your hosts are keen anglers and provide excellent accommodation for fishermen. The fishing is primarily fly fishing for wild brown trout on Lough Corrib or dapping Mayfly, Grasshoppers and Daddy Longlegs on Loughs Corrib, Mask and Carra.

Grasshopper Cottage is a country home located on the Dooras peninsula on Lough Corrib, three kilometres from the village of Corr na Móna. The Cottage, with superb lake and mountain views, is 50 metres from the water’s edge and is situated in an area of peaceful, natural beauty with hedgerows of wild flowers, fuchsias and rhododendrons.

Roy and Sorcha have been welcoming anglers to their home for over twenty years and, being anglers themselves, are totally familiar with the needs of the game fisher. After a day on Lough Corrib, or on other waters in the area, relax in front of a turf fire in the lounge overlooking the lake.

There is a well-stocked fly tying desk for guests' use and library of angling periodicals, books and videos. Dinners, which use local produce, should be booked 24 hours in advance. The house opens in mid-March and closes at the end of September. There is a private jetty and slipway on the lough with boats, engines and tackle for hire.

The Fishing

Grasshopper Cottage Fishing Fishing on Lough Corrib is primarily for wild brown trout but also for some salmon. Fly fishing is the speciality of the house. The season opens on February 15th and closes on September 30th. It is mid to late March before the first major fly hatches occur.

The Duck Fly is followed by the emergence of Lake Olives and then the famous Mayfly. By mid-June daytime fishing gives way to late evening and night fishing. Daytime angling again improves considerably from mid-August to the end of September.

The lough is famous for its tradition of dapping terrestrials such as Mayfly, Grasshoppers and Daddy Longlegs. Very large trout, to 20lbs, are caught throughout the year by deep trolling methods. Fishing may also be arranged on small 'brownie' lakes in the area and on Loughs Mask, Carra and on the Connemara fisheries.

Ghillies and tuition are available by prior arrangement. A rod room, with drying facilities, and freezer, is adjacent to the house.
