Fisheries » Lough Fermoyle
This fishery is located to the west of the Costello-Oughterard road about 8 miles from Costello. Park at Fermoyle Lodge and take the footpath to the water’s edge. The lough is very shallow on the western side and around the big island, and these areas hold a lot of sea trout after a flood, but in low water they are mostly too shallow to fish comfortably. Salmon lie on the points along the south shore and the bays hold the sea trout, as does the area eastwards towards the mouth of the inflowing river , which is one of the favourite drifts. There is one boat available and the lough fishes well in any wind, except a northerly. It is one of the great loughs for many dedicated sea trout anglers.
